Illinois Manhunt Underway After Officer Is Shot And Killed

A vast manhunt for 3 suspects in northern Illinois is underway after a Fox Lake military officer was shot and killed early Tuesday. 

The suspects are deliberate armed and dangerous, according to police.

The slain officer was identified Tuesday afternoon as Charles Joseph Gliniewicz

Canine units, choppers and a “large number” of officers on feet have been deployed nearby where Gliniewicz died, roughly 50 miles north of Chicago, Lake County orator Detective Chris Covelli pronounced during a morning news conference. Area SWAT teams and a U.S. marshals have also assimilated a search. 

Lake County Undersheriff Raymond Rose told a Tribune

“At this point, this is a two-pronged investigation. We’re looking into a confinement of a 3 suspects during large,” Covelli said. “In tie with that, we’re operative a review on a officer who was injured. Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is streamer adult that investigation.”  

Gliniewicz contacted a military dialect around radio around 8 a.m. to contend he was on feet and posterior 3 questionable subjects, Covelli said. Contact was mislaid shortly thereafter. When backup arrived on a scene, Covelli pronounced they detected a downed officer had suffered a gunshot wound.

The area surrounding a shooting, nearby U.S. Route 12 and Sayton Road, is a brew of wooded, marshy land and industrial space. Police have blocked off several categorical thoroughfares easterly of a sharpened area, and some internal businesses were sealed progressing on Tuesday, area publication the Daily Herald reports. 

Police asked area residents on Tuesday morning to stay in their homes and to news any questionable people or activity.
