Local prosecutors in Georgia have requested that state election officials preserve records as part of a criminal investigation into attempts to interfere in the state election following former President Donald Trump’s efforts to tilt the state vote count in his favor.
The Georgia Secretary of State’s office confirmed Wednesday that it had received the notifications from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
Fulton County officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
In a Jan. 2 telephone call, Trump pressed Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” enough votes to reverse his loss.
“So look, all I want to do is this: I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state,” Trump told Raffensperger according to audio of that call.
Separately, Trump also urged a Georgia election investigator to “find the fraud” in a December phone call.
