Sex And The City alum Jason Lewis has apologized for shooting rice balls at feral cats who had been defecating on his lawn.
Apparently the animals were previously owned by a resident of the neighborhood whose death last September left them homeless, TMZ reports.
Jason, 49, clarified in a statement that he was ‘shooting rice into the dirt (not toward the cats) to spook with the noise and scare them away.’

However his decision infuriated his female neighbor Opel Barnes who had been daily providing food for the cats and attempting to win their trust.
‘Everyone who knows me knows my love of animals. I’ve tried for months to work with a person who is coming into the neighborhood and feeding a large group of feral cats in an effort to relocate them as they have been filling the yards with fleas and waste,’ he said in his statement to TMZ.

Opel posted an Instagram video in which she can be heard admonishing Jason for ‘shooting at them for no reason! You think I should be reasonable?’

‘No, see, “unreasonable” would’ve been putting pellets in here instead of grains of rice,’ said Jason while standing on his porch.
Opel, who appeared to be speaking to him from her own home, replied: ‘Like grains of rice isn’t gonna hurt them?’
‘I’m not hitting them!’ Jason insisted. ‘I’m shooting in their general direction.’
