Kobe Bryant May Get Los Angeles Street Named After Him as Tribute

The city street naming plan isn’t the only potential tribute planned for the late NBA legend as Kobe, who died in a helicopter crash on Sunday, will reportedly be the subject of a special tribute at the 2020 Oscars.

Kobe Bryant deserves so much love. The late NBA star, who died earlier this week in a helicopter crash, may be immortalized in the city of Los Angeles very soon as the world is still mourning his sudden passing.

According to TMZ, the city officials are discussing a plan to name a city street after Kobe. It was said that they are going over multiple options to pay tribute to him and that includes naming a street within the L.A. Live area near to the home that Kobe built, the Staples Center, after the NBA legend.

However, it should be noted that the decision has yet to be finalized. The report stated that people will probably hear the final official decision in the next few weeks.

The city street naming plan isn’t the only potential tribute planned for him. The 41-year-old basketball player, who was killed in a helicopter crash in California on Sunday, January 26, 2020, alongside eight other passengers including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, will reportedly be the subject of a special tribute at the 2020 Oscars in February.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter the Academy of Motion Picture Arts Sciences is planning to acknowledge the death of the NBA (National Basketball Association) legend at the awards show on February 9, highlighting his affiliations with the organisation.

In addition to his sporting achievements, Kobe won the Best Animated Short Oscar in 2018 for his five-minute autobiographical short film, “Dear Basketball”. The Los Angeles Lakers star wrote, executive produced and lent his voice to the project.

Additionally, Kobe is among the honorees for the 2020 class of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He will be inducted posthumously in a ceremony that will be held in August in Springfield, Massachusetts, along with Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. HOF chairman and former USA Basketball Director Jerry Colangelo told The Athletic on Monday, January 27, “Expected to be the most epic class ever with Kobe, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. Kobe will be honored the way he should be.”
