As rescue costs soar, Parks Canada sets new manners for climbing Canada’s top peak

Parks Canada has announced new manners for climbers attempting to tackle Canada’s top peak, after it had to perform several dangerous and costly rescue missions in new years.

There’s now a duration on solo climbing on Mount Logan, as good as winter expeditions on a towering or anywhere else in Yukon’s Kluane National Park.

Climbers are also now required to have insurance to cover search-and-rescue costs.

“We unequivocally wanted to urge a reserve both for folks visiting Kluane as good as a reserve for a rescue responders,” pronounced Ed Jager, with Parks Canada.

“We’ve also taken all 3 of these stairs to revoke a financial weight on taxpayers for a rescues that have been holding place in Kluane.”

According to Jager, there have been 8 rescue missions in Kluane in a final 7 years. Each typically costs about $60,000 to $100,000 — and Canadian taxpayers have been balance a bill.
