TV hits “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel“, “Watchmen“, and “Game of Thrones” are all in the running for top honours at the 2020 Directors Guild of America Awards.

The third season of Rachel Brosnahan’s show dominates the outstanding directorial achievement in comedy series category with a trio of nods, earned by Dan Attias for the episode “It’s the Sixties, Man!”, Amy Sherman-Palladino for “It’s Comedy or Cabbage”, and Daniel Palladino for “Marvelous Radio”.

Rounding out the nominations for comedy series are “Veep” ‘s David Mandel for the title episode of season seven, and “Barry” star Bill Hader, who is up for directing the instalment titled “ronny/lily”.

Meanwhile, the drama award contenders are “Watchmen” ‘s Stephen Williams and Nicole Kassell, who are up for the respective episodes “This Extraordinary Being” and “It’s Summer and We’re Running Out of Ice”, alongside Mark Mylod for “Succession” ‘s “This Is Not for Tears”, and “Game of Thrones” ‘ David Nutter for “The Last of the Starks”, and Miguel Sapochnik for “The Long Night”.

The shortlist for directorial achievement in variety/talk/news/sports specials has also been unveiled, with nods picked up by Spike Jonze for “Aziz Ansari: Right Now“, Stan Lathan for “Dave Chappelle: Sticks Stones“, and James Burrows and Andy Fisher for “Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear‘s All in the Family and The Jeffersons“.

Linda Mendoza (“Wanda Sykes: Not Normal“) and Glenn Weiss (91st annual Academy Awards broadcast) complete the award’s nominees.

The final group of TV nods had originally been due to be released on January 6, 2020, but a ballot error, which accidentally omitted “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway from the list of eligible comedy contenders, delayed the announcement until Friday, January 10, 2020.

The 72nd annual DGA Awards will take place in Los Angeles on January 25, 2020.
