Mariah Carey sued by her former nanny for unpaid wages and damages after working with no breaks in an abusive environment
While Mariah Carey celebrates her 19th number 1 hit with her perennial holiday favorite All I Want For Christmas, she’s facing a lawsuit from a former nanny.
While the specific amounts aren’t clear, Burgues claims Carey didn’t properly account for the hours she worked and owe her unspecified wages on the $25-an-hour salary she was earning while watching Carey’s kids, eight year old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
Mariah’s rep has since released a statement to the publication saying: ‘This is a legally and factually baseless claim that will be defended with vigor.’

Burgues alleges in the lawsuit that Carey would not allow her to take breaks, as required by California law, including meals and rest breaks.
She does not specify the hours she was required to work for the songstress, but the lawsuit implies that she worked, ‘around the clock’ for her.

Her duties also apparently included things that did not pertain to her job description as the nanny, while alleging that one of Carey’s bodyguards did not treat her well.

The unnamed bodyguard Burgues had to report to was said to treat her poorly in public on more than one occasion.
She alleges that he almost got them into a major traffic accident because he was on his phone.
She also claims that he tried to kick her out of the car during a drive to Las Vegas, and then when she finally complained about her treatment, she was fired.Â

Burgues was allegedly flying all around the world while watching Carey’s kids, and she’s claiming she wasn’t paid fairly for everything she did.
Carey has yet to comment publicly on the lawsuit at this time.Â

The song, which celebrated its 25th Anniversary this year, finally took the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts for the first time.
This marks her 19th #1 hit, the second most of any artist of all time, just behind The Beatles with 20 #1 hits.
