Ant-Man and the Wasp won’t be in theaters until July 6, but we’re already getting a good idea of the movie’s quality. The newest Marvel movie held its world premiere over the weekend and early fan reactions to movie have been overwhelmingly positive.
These aren’t official reviews and should be taken with a grain of salt, but it is a good indicator of what fans think of the movie.
The Ant-Man sequel sees the return of the entire original cast, including director Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd (as Ant-Man), Evangeline Lilly (as Wasp), Michael Douglas (as Hank Pym) and Michael Peña (as Luis), while adding new faces in Michelle Pfeiffer and Laurence Fishburne. Back are the comedic elements that made the first movie stand out along with a new story that not only expands upon the Ant-Man character, but also sets up the Wasp as the newest heroine in the MCU.
Here’s what fans are saying:
A tiny take: #AntManAndTheWasp was a total blast. Romantic, energetic and a lot of fun. @MrPeytonReed left unchained and left to his own devices is glorious and totally bonkers and brilliant. pic.twitter.com/QZ8okR76eG

I have emerged from #AntManAndTheWasp and bring good news. This movie is a total blast. Liked it more than the original (which I dug). It’s remains self-contained in the crazy MCU of it all, which is a good thing. Doesn’t ignore its connections to that world, though.

OMG #AntManAndTheWasp is amazing!!! I loved it so much! I can’t wait to see it again. I laughed so hard. Maybe more than Ragnarok… Michael Pena’s Luis is HERO.

#AntManAndTheWasp is cool and all, but the end credit scene is the best part of the whole film and the only thing I can think about right now.

The overall response is largely positive with some pointing out the energy, heart and comedy behind the script. Many are also quick to praise how it stays self-contained in the expansive MCU world. That being said, it still doesn’t answer some of our burning questions regarding Avengers: Infinity War, though the film does connect directly to Avengers 4.
We’ll see for ourselves when Ant-Man and the Wasp arrives in theaters July 6.
