After Avengers 4 hits in early 2019, Marvel Studios will release the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which will apparently be a return to “normal life†and bring things back to Earth.
Speaking to IGN, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said Spider-Man is the perfect character to ground the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to his everyman qualities. As such, Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will help change the tone and pace of the MCU.
“He is one of us,†Feige said to IGN. “He is, quote-unquote, a normal person, lives a normal life, with a normal environment, who, you know, got these powers, and who is exposed to these extraordinary things.â€
After briefly appearing in Captain America: Civil War, Peter went back to his normal life while grappling with his newfound title as an Avenger. In Avengers: Infinity War, he’s being thrown into the thick of it yet again.
“What is it like to try to go back to a normal life after what happens in this movie (Infinity War)?†Feige said. “Not to mention what happens in the next (Avengers) movie.â€
Although Peter will attempt to get back to his normal life in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, he won’t be in New York for long. Feige said Peter will visit other parts of the globe, adding what takes places in Avengers: Infinity War will “inform†what happens in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2.
Avengers 4 is set to hit theaters on May 3, 2019, while the untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is scheduled for a release on July 5, 2019.
