4. MightyText

MightyText has a dedicated web interface that syncs with your Android phone number and lets you send texts directly from Gmail as if using an instant message tool. The PowerView feature allows interacting with several text message screens at once.

Notifications also appear on your computer to alert if you’re receiving a call or your phone battery is low. It’s possible to use MightyText for free, but there is a Pro version for $8.99 per month or $79.99 per year, as well.

Like many people, you probably encounter situations where it’d be handier to send a text message later, instead of immediately. There are specific apps for text scheduling that are worth checking out, but keep in mind MightyText Pro lets you schedule texts in the future, too.

5. Pulse

Once you download Pulse on your iPhone or Android smartphone, it’s easy to launch the web app and send texts on your computer at any time.

Like MightyText, Pulse also offers a scheduled sending feature, along with a similar one that delays the messages slightly so you can avoid sending a text that has an error.

A search tool lets you quickly find keywords in messages to retrieve old conversations efficiently. Also, the Backup and Restore feature automatically transfers content from Pulse to new devices.

Pulse offers a week-long trial. After that, pay 99 cents per month, $1.99 for three months or $5.99 per year. Alternatively, there’s a lifetime subscription for only $10.99. You get billed for that one immediately after choosing it.

6. mySMS

This free app is for computers running Windows 8 or 10. Install the mySMS app on your phone first, then click the blue Get the App button in the Microsoft Store on a compatible computer.

After that, you’ll sync your computer and phone and be able to send texts from the former without hassles or cumbersome setup processes.

7. Send a text with any email account

Many people don’t realize they can send text messages from their computers by using an email program without depending on a third-party service. Doing so requires knowing the recipient’s mobile number and the associated “@gateway” address for the service provider.

For example, if a person is a Verizon customer, you’d send an email by inserting [person’s mobile number without spaces]@vtext.com into the “To:” field and then writing your text in the message body. Keep the content brief, though, because many providers impose a 160- character limit.

Thanks to these options, you’re no longer confined to your phone when it’s time to send a text. Keep in mind that all the apps require downloading them to your smartphone first before launching the web interface.

Also, because not all these possibilities send texts from your phone number, let recipients know not to ignore texts from unfamiliar numbers that could be you.

Alternatively, always sign texts with your name or clarify your identity in the first sentence of the message, which ensures that portion should show up in a person’s notifications.
