The Toronto District School Board has authorized a devise to put naloxone in all of a high schools and choice schools.
Ryan Bird, orator for the TDSB, told CBC Toronto there hasn’t been a conditions where a naloxone kit was needed, though a house is holding a step as a precaution.
“We have EpiPens in a propagandize for serious allergies, and they’re there only in case,” Bird said. “It’s a same with these kits.”
On Wednesday night, propagandize house curators concluded to accept a news that summarized the TDSB’s plan to fight a growing opioid crisis. The propagandize house will be training about 3 staff members per propagandize on a use of naloxone and a nasal spray version of a drug, that is granted in a kit.
Training is approaching to start before Mar Break, and be finish by the finish of April. Naloxone kits will be distributed to a schools once a training is done.
The kits are approaching to cost a TDSB between $16,000-$20,000, and a house plans to yield approximately 110 schools with one pack each.
“There is a favoured cost to this, that a TDSB will be paying, though we do consider it’s an investment — potentially saving a life down a road,” Bird said.Â

He adds that the devise is partial of a incomparable review the TDSB has had with Toronto Public Health.Â
“Obviously, we wish to never have to use them,” Bird said. “But it’s there for a prevision should a need ever arise.”
“Should something occur inside of a schools, we need something that can assistance save a life.”
