Samsung on Tuesday announced its rugged smartphone, the Galaxy S8 Active, is making its way to T-Mobile and Sprint after being an ATT exclusive.
When Samsung first introduced the Active version to its Galaxy S line starting with S4 Active back in 2013, it was an ATT exclusive. That continued with the S7 Active and even the S8 Active, but now it will be available through T-Mobile and Sprint for the first time ever. That means that S8 Active will be available through most major U.S. carriers.
T-Mobile and Sprint will carry the Meteor Gray variant.
The Galaxy S8 Active packs the innards of the Galaxy S8 inside of a rugged exterior that is meant to be the perfect outdoors device. Here’s a quick rundown of its top-end specifications:
Aside from the rugged body, the only major difference between the S8 and S8 Active is the impressive increase in battery size. You get a massive 4,000mAh battery with the Galaxy S8 Active.
The Galaxy S8 Active will be available through T-Mobile and Sprint some time later this month, but a specific date was not revealed. Both carriers will offer the device through monthly installment plans, or it can purchased outright at $849.99.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this post incorrectly identified the Galaxy S6 Active as the first model in the Active line. It has been corrected to Galaxy S4 Active.
