Summer may be going strong, but Universal Studios theme parks are neck-deep into planning for Halloween. For months, the Florida and California resorts have been dropping details about this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, which begin Sept. 2 at Universal Orlando Resort and Sept. 8 at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The fan-favorite fall event is known for its intricately themed haunted houses and pulse-pounding scare zones, which the parks warn “may be too intense for young children.”
Guests of all ages, however, can get an early start on spooksthis summer with a new addition at Universal Studios Hollywood that’s straight off the big screen.
5 MISTAKES I MADE AT UNIVERSAL ORLANDO:How to save more time, money than me
HELLO, MARIO:Super Nintendo World is coming to the US next year
An original set from Jordan Peele’s thriller “Nope” joined the Universal Studios Hollywood’s World-Famous Studio Tour on July 22, the same day the movie opened in theaters.
“I remember visiting Universal Studios when I was 12 years old and being mesmerized,” Peele, who also directed “Get Out” and “Us,” said in a press release. “That experience reinforced my passion and drive to someday join in on the meta-magic of ‘backlot life.’ “
The “Nope” set from the film’s fictitious Jupiter’s Claim theme park will be a permanent part of the backlot tour, like sets from “Back to the Future,” “Psycho” and other cult classics.
There will be 10 haunted houses at Universal Orlando and eight haunted houses at Universal Studios Hollywood this year. Themes change from year to year and are revealed over time.
One of this year’s new haunted houses is a collaboration with Grammy-winning artist The Weeknd.
“I always wanted my own Halloween Horror Nights haunted house as Halloween has always been significant to my music, so this is a total dream come to life,” The Weeknd said in a statement. “I feel like my music videos have served as a launching pad for a collaboration like this, and I cannot wait for people to experience this madness!”
