Toyota security breach compromised data of 3.1 million car owners

For the second time in less than five weeks, Toyota announced a cyber-security breach that may have led to the information of millions of Toyota and Lexus owners being stolen.

According to Toyota, the security breach occurred within the IT systems where the hackers were able to access data belonging to several sales subsidiaries. Among those affected were Toyota Tokyo Sales Holdings, Tokyo Tokyo Motor, Tokyo Toyopet, Toyota Tokyo Corolla, Nets Toyota Tokyo, Lexus Koishikawa Sales, Jamil Shoji (Lexus Nerima) and Toyota West Tokyo Corolla.

With the servers compromised, the hackers were able to access the stored sales information of up to 3.1 million customers. Toyota has since put out a statement apologizing for the data breach.
