Ys VIII’s entrancing soundtrack uploaded to spotify, NipponIchi schools you on its history

I rant and rave about Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, and Super Mario existing for 30 years and being the pillars of both my personal gaming life and the foundation of video games in general. It is true that very few series have run as consistently and with such frequency for that same amount of time, but Nihon Falcom’s Ys is one of these few exceptions.

The first game was released on June 21, 1987, meaning we’re just three months shy of thirty years!

Always at the heels of The Legend of Zelda, the series that clearly inspired it, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is now confirmed to continue the franchise’s blooming success in North America. I’m a casual fan of the series, and I’ve been slowly catching up on the more modern releases. I can give you a rundown on the general history, but I can’t divulge into hands-on experience like I can a few other JRPG series that I love.

That’s fine though because I have NipponIchi, the localization company behind Ys VIII, to do that for me.

The company has written a nice retrospective on the series over at PlayStation Blog and provided links to even longer retrospectives that I suggest interested readers check out. I’ve already done so, and there is a wealth of information on the series.
