World War II movies are a dime a dozen, but that’s not stopping J.J. Abrams from making Overlord, a new project being helmed by Son of a Gun director Julius Avery. According to Variety, Abrams’ film will put a spin on the formula by introducing zombies and other supernatural forces.
The report says the film will follow paratroopers who get stranded behind enemy lines following a plane crash. After reaching a German radio tower, they encounter zombified Nazi soldiers and other horrifying experiments.
It’s unclear what the tone of the movie will be. Parsing through Variety’s description, it sounds to me like it will be a horror comedy. But considering the talent involved, including Billy Ray, who adapted The Hunger Games for the big screen, I’m apt to believe it’ll be more serious than lighthearted.
Either way, it sounds like it could turn out to be a really cool project, what with all the zombies and the supernatural enemies.
