Towards the end of June, WhatsApp started trialing a new feature that allowed testers to share any type of file, as long as it’s under 100MB on Android and 128MB on iOS — and now it’s rolling out to all users.
100MB is a relatively small limit, but it’s more than enough bandwidth to send encrypted documents, video clips, and even fully-fledged applications. Just don’t expect transfer an entire movie.
WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a peer-to-peer payment platform, which, when combined with the facility to send any type of file, could see the application used as some form of virtual marketplace.
