The Cricut mug press makes your life easier

My first bugbear with the Cricut Mug Press is not with the Mug Press but with the company itself. When you first buy the Mug Press, you have to register it to your account via a USB connection to your laptop before it works at all. This may not seem like a big deal; after all, you have to do that with your vinyl cutter too, but it sets off several alarm bells for me. There is no benefit to the consumer for this kind of registration, and it can easily be used in nefarious ways. If Cricut decides to stop people from reselling the Mug Press, they can turn it into a paperweight. It’s like making a toaster that only works if you register it; simply not cool.

The second part is a valid frustration that I have seen from many people. At $200, the mug press is severely limited in the type of mug you can use. Most sublimation presses on the market can handle multiple sizes, as well as tapered mugs without much issue, but the Mug Press is limited to just two sizes of straight-sided coffee mug. For the cost, you would hope for more variety, but it isn’t a deal-breaker. This is a specific product to make a specific product, and it does so superbly well, so I don’t think the cost is unreasonable.
