Ever since Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Model 3, rumors have been constant about what the car will include. It will be Tesla’s first budget car, but that’s where a lot of the uncertainty begins.
Elon Musk has gone on record stating the Model 3 will go into production in July, with deliveries expected by the end of the year. That can mean any number of things, but worst case scenario is that only a few will get their car by the end of the year with the rest having to wait until 2018. Unfortunately, we don’t have a concrete answer, but that’s only because Musk and Tesla have been quiet on this particular issue. The good news is that just last month, Musk showed off a Model 3 driving through Silicon Valley on Twitter.
The Model 3 will start at $35,000, but after incentives, that will go down to around $27,000. Pretty sweet, right? Not so fast. That’s for the most basic car Tesla has ever made. We still don’t know what it will include regarding features. That price for a decent Model 3 may be slightly higher than advertised.
Speaking of range, Elon Musk revealed it will be 215 miles for the Model 3, but only if you’re charged up to 100 percent. What he failed to mention is that you shouldn’t charge your electric car to full capacity because that will wear out the battery much faster. Instead, you should top out at 80- to 90 percent, which brings the range down to under 200 miles.
A few of the other details we know include its all-glass roof (similar to the one found in the Model S), Supercharger functionality and color options (Black, Blue, White, Red, Silver). There may be some other features that haven’t been revealed yet like an automated Supercharger that permits have suggested. We won’t know about those details until the final production version of the Model 3 is revealed in July.
