It may be difficult to believe, but it has been just over 20 years since Bandai unleashed the Tamagotchi in the U.S., and a fad took over the nation.
Originally released on Nov. 23, 1996 in Japan, the Tamagotchi made it’s way to the United States in May 1997. To celebrate this milestone, Bandai is releasing six different versions of the digital pet to celebrate.
Starting Nov. 5, you’ll find 20th Anniversary Tamagotchi selling for $14.99 in locations such as GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon and several more retailers. Pre-selling will begin today, Oct. 10, through several of the retailers.
There will be six styles available for this release, which you will find are smaller than the original model. Additionally, they will be packaged on blister cards as opposed to the boxes you found them in back in 1997.
In case you browse through the pictures below and think there is a typo on the orange one, fear not. You will notice it says “Tamagotch†as opposed to “Tamagotchi†as that was the original name in Japan and this is merely a tip of the hat to the birthplace of the virtual pet.
