Blizzard took a trip to Seoul this weekend, naturally meaning that it had some big news regarding StarCraft. And guess what, it did! The company confirmed that it is working on a 4K UHD remake of both StarCraft and StarCraft: The Brood War, and this exciting new bundle will be released later this summer.

In addition to the visual upgrades, Blizzard stated that the remake will include the “original soundtrack and dialogue, re-recorded and rejuvenated,” and the mission briefings in between the campaign levels will be completely redone. The battles viewpoints will be able to “zoom out for a Battlecruiser’s view of the battlefield, or zoom in to see the veins on a Mutalisk’s wings.”

StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years.

With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.

Blizzard also released a handful of before-and-after screenshots to accompany the announcement.
