Spider-Man: Homecoming’s screenwriters will return for the sequel

Spidey had a pretty tough decade. After what is arguably still the best Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man 2, he went emo, then he went Andrew Garfield. After a lot of bumps and bruises, the wall-crawler finally had a good outing this summer in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Following the movie’s warm critical reception, the Hollywood Reporter says the guys that helped make that happen are set to return for the 2019 sequel.

The duo of Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are reportedly in final negotiations to return for the sequel. That’s great news. The Spider-Man movies struggled for years, trying to pack in far too many villains and repeatedly dropping the ball on huge moments from Spider-Man’s comic-book history.

Homecoming kept things simple, focusing on core elements of what makes Spidey who he is: protecting his identity and struggling with the responsibilities his powers thrust upon him. In the process we got a great Spider-Man and one of the MCU’s very best villains – Michael Keaton as the Vulture, Adrian Toomes.
