The papers aren’t signed yet, but bringing Watts back seems likely. Watts other work – movies like Cop Car and Clown – aren’t anything like Homecoming, but Watts did a good job of bringing the high-flying web-slinger down to the ground with a personal story about maturity, responsibility, relationships, and disappointment. It hit the core tenets of Spider-Man without dragging us through yet another re-telling of the origin story. With all the trouble Spider-Man has had in the past 10 years, we’d love to see a director who seems to understand the character come back for another round.
Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is, despite not having a director, script, or anything but a star, set to release on July 5, 2019.
