This past weekend, SpaceX successfully launched and landed its Falcon 9 rocket, the first time since one of its rockets exploded on a Florida launchpad last year. While the landing is important for the company’s eventual goal of shuttling humans to Mars, we wanted to highlight the gorgeous photos captured from the event.
SpaceX has shared some gorgeous images before, but this latest group of photos are the best yet. There’s one shot in particular of the Falcon 9 rocket blocking the sun that stands out. It’s beautiful, and paints a dramatic scene that should be appreciated.
Many different elements combine to make this photo special. The silhouetted rocket looks epic among the swirling smoke, which is cast in shadow from the rocket’s legs. You can also see fire sitting on the landing pad as the rocket carefully descends.
Additionally, the image highlights how a little planning and luck can combine to create a memorable photo. You can check out the full gallery of images from this weekend’s past launch at the head of this post.
