Sonic Mania officially the highest-rated Sonic in 15 years

The word is out, and Sonic Mania is hot. Finally, we have a universally liked game in the Sonic series. We have a title that, supposedly captures what made the originals so marvelous while propelling the franchise in some great new directions.

In fact, as pointed out by the often hilarious Sonic Twitter account, this is the highest-rated Sonic title we’ve had in 15 years. Here’s the tweet that makes the point, includes some metascores and thanks franchise fans.

I want this game. In fact, I’m set to pick it up on my Nintendo Switch this evening. I play my Switch on the train every day for a couple hours, and the idea that I’ll be able to play a genuinely great new Sonic title on the go is too much to ignore.
