Rockstar in hot water over 15-year-old Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Grand Theft Auto studio Rockstar is in trouble over one of its parody characters again. But no, it’s not one of the characters in Grand Theft Auto V. Or Grand Theft Auto IV. Or San Andreas. Keep going, all the way back to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. TMZ is reporting that the company that holds the rights to the late television psychic Miss Cleo, who passed away in 2016, has filed suit against the company for using her likeness for the Vice City character Auntie Poulet.

In case you’ve forgotten the minutiae of a fifteen-year-old game, here’s a video of the character, dug up by Eurogamer:

Psychic Readers Network claims that Rockstar and other parties involved in the production of Vice City have made over $500 million exploiting the character they had spent $100 million creating. Rockstar had hired the actress who played Miss Cleo to voice the character in the game as well, making the allegation pretty tough to deny.

The organization says that Rockstar continues to make money off of Vice City via re-issues and packages. Even though the game itself is a full 15 years old at this point, the company feels the suit is valid because of this.
