RED unexpectedly announced the Hydrogen One last month, providing a render of the device and a press release with little information. That was until today.
Notable YouTuber MKBHD got an exclusive first look at the device and showed it off in all of its glory. It’s certainly something to behold.
The device MKBHD got his hands was a non-working prototype that features the final fit and finish design but doesn’t turn on. The design of the Hydrogen One is certainly rugged, featuring an industrial finish with grooved edges, metal panels and even kevlar panels. On the back is a circular dual camera that is quite reminiscent of the Moto Z2 Force. RED’s signature insignia flanks the lower half.
At the bottom of the back are the pins that will connect to other mods that will add features to the device.
Disappointingly, the front display does have big bezels on the top and bottom—but it’s for a good reason. It features two stereo speakers with a big 5.7-inch display. On the side is a record button and on the bottom is a USB- C port and headphone jack, but these ports will be moved to the top of the device when production begins on the phone.
