Put on Levi’s $349 smart jacket this week

We’ve just entered fall, and you can start the season right with a smart jacket. With the help of Google, Levis is releasing one of the first consumer-ready pieces of smart clothing.

Google initially announced Project Jacquard in 2015. It’s no longer a project, however. The technology that makes everyday clothing connected is about to be made available in the United States through a denim jacket made by the Levi brand. The Commuter Trucker Jacket with Jacquard, which pairs with your phone to receive information, goes on sale this week.

It may look like any other denim jacket, but the Commuter Trucker Jacket does a bunch of the things you normally do on your phone. The jacket is capable of starting and stopping music, requesting directions, reading messages, and more. While getting data from your phone, interaction occurs through a snap tag placed on the wrist. But don’t worry. Levi’s doesn’t have thick wires running throughout the material. You’re not going to notice anything since Google created these gesture-sensing Jacquard Threads in the cuff.

To ensure you know your jacket is responding, the snap features light and haptic feedback. If you need to adjust the settings, jump into the Jacquard app.

The Commuter Trucker Jacket with Jacquard arrives in select stores on Wednesday, September 27. It’ll then be widely available in the U.S. online and in Levi’s stores next week. Google and Levi’s has this piece of connected clothing priced at $349, so it’s not exactly something you’re going to walk into a store and immediately buy.
