The self-established investigator, who runs MarathonInvestigation.com, noticed a picture of Seo at the finish line. After zooming in and cropping, he saw Seo’s watch revealed she ran just 11.65 miles, about a mile and a half short of the full race length. Busted!
There’s much more to this case. Seo apparently re-traced her tracks on a bicycle later on, complete with GPS, in order to fake her route. Check out the sleuthing done by MarathonInvestigation.com. A lot of “crime†can be tracked using digital crumbs, GPS tracking, and digital forensics. Marathoning is not immune to this type of cheating. Next time don’t cheat or, if you do, leave the smartwatch at home. Just don’t cheat.
