That’s a lot of people buying a lot of systems. Sony’s momentum seems to be self-sustaining at this point, but Microsoft is going to have to work to keep people interested as it continues to play catch-up with the PlayStation.
Since we had new hardware from Microsoft and Sony in the last year-and-some, next year is going to be a slow year for hardware. It’s possible we might see a slight revision of the Nintendo Switch, but that could be as simple as some more color combos or a system-storage bump. The emphasis then will be on software. Sony has games like God of War and Spider-Man on the way, while Microsoft’s plate is a bit more lean with Sea of Theives and Crackdown set for this spring, bolstered by the potential of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which launched into Microsoft’s Game Preview program earlier this week.
Microsoft has an uphill battle ahead, though at least now they have a solid system to work with.
