PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is off to a fast start on Xbox One

What remains to be seen is whether PUBG can maintain this. The game is experiencing a rocky start due in large part to the same kinds of optimization issues experienced on PC, but amplified. Moments with large numbers of players on-screen slow the game down significantly, while normal moment-to-moment gameplay is holding up better.

PUBG is, again, in Microsoft’s Game Preview Program, so hopefully Microsoft and the developer will be able to work these issues out and provide the smoother experience consoles are supposed to provide. The problem, DigitalFoundry notes, is related to the CPU, not the graphics horsepower of the system, so it may end up being somewhat of a limitation throughout the game’s lifetime, and likely will see similar issues on PlayStation 4. This preview period may give the developer enough time to get a smoother experience running, though, and by the time it (maybe) makes it to PlayStation 4, we’ll have a better-working game.
