Streaming giant Netflix is in “advanced negotiations†with former President Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama to produce a series of shows for the service.
The deal, first reported on by the New York Times, would have the couple producing content for the streaming service. While details about the format and size of these shows isn’t out there yet, the Times says that the Obamas would be avoiding addressing politics specifically, instead focusing on inspirational stories.
“President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,†said Eric Schultz – a senior adviser to the former president – speaking to the Times. “Throughout their lives they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.â€
The Times says that Netflix isn’t the only outfit interested in a deal with the Obamas. Amazon and Apple are also interested in securing them, but it’s unclear if talks have moved as far along as those with Netflix apparently have.
There’s no word on when these shows would be coming, and Netflix has not yet commented on the report.
