Movies Anywhere brings us one step closer to the death of physical media

The death of movies on physical media came one step closer on Wednesday as Movies Anywhere announced that it is launching.

Movies Anywhere is not a new concept, but instead is based on Disney Movies Anywhere. Launched in 2014, Disney Movies Anywhere was a new take on the centralized digital movie collection. When you purchased a Disney film from a source such as iTunes, you could have it then become available on other outlets such as a dedicated app or on another movie service such as Amazon. While there was a service such as UltraViolet, DMA started to cause some confusion in the marketplace.

Now the ‘Anywhere’ concept is growing with a new service called Movies Anywhere. Users will now be able to purchase films released by Disney, Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros. and share them across the platforms of Google Play Movies, iTunes, Amazon Video and Vudu.

For example, when you purchase a film on iTunes it will then become available to view as well in your Amazon Video Library.
