“It was so irreverent and funny and hysterical that once I got through it, I was like, ‘that’s it,’ and I had no idea [about] the fan base… what it represented, and I think we’ve made something really special.â€
When it comes to characters we’ve seen or are going to see in Marvel flicks, Cable and Thanos are pretty high up there, so Brolin is picking his characters carefully. While his role as Thanos has been just a few scenes, the release of Avengers: Infinity War ramps up his role significantly. Infinity War‘s base story is an ultra-serious superhero crossover about Brolin’s character trying to rewrite reality, while Deadpool is about an idiot who won’t die, so at the very least, we’re likely to get two very different versions of Brolin.
In addition to his appearance in Deadpool 2, Brolin will be portraying Cable in a planned X-Force film, which has him leading a band of mercenary mutants, and maybe even in another Deadpool flick (those guys hang out a lot). If the first does well, an X-Force sequel is all but guaranteed, and Brolin did mention a four-film deal, so that seems likely.
Avengers hits theaters on April 25, 2018, and Deadpool 2 on June 1, so we’ll be getting a full-sized dose of Josh Brolin next year.
