Jennifer Garner mastered a Nutcracker hairdo from a professional ballerina.

Garner, 53, took to Instagram on Monday, December 22, to share exactly how to get a perfect Nutcracker French twist, with the help of Tiler Peck, who performed as the Sugar Plum Fairy in New York City’s performance.

In the clip, the dancer sat down with the actress with a number of bobby pins and a hairbrush spread out over a table. “Are you right handed?” she asked Garner, who replied, “Yes.”

The ballerina then instructed her to put her left hand at the base of her head to gather her hair into a low ponytail. “And then the right hand is going to go over — you kind of have to give yourself space [to twist your hair.].”
Peck, 36, then slid her left hand down to start releasing hair as she used her right fingers to twist her mane. She used her left hand to hold the “tail” of her tresses down to keep the style in place.

“And then you just keep twisting up,” Peck explained. “You use those pins and you just kind of grab [some hair from the twist] and pull [the pin] over” to the side to secure it.

Garner then asked if the hairstyle was “the Balanchine way?” (George Balanchine choreographed a famous version of The Nutcracker for the New York City Ballet.)

Peck answered, “I never taught this.” She then looked over at Garner’s attempt and started adjusting the style.

“Now that I can do my hair, I feel like I should probably be in the New York City Ballet,” Garner quipped. “Fouettés are a big part of my life,” she added, referring to a style of turns that the Sugar Plum Fairy does.

Peck played along, “You’ll be doing 32 fouettés in no time.”

“From Sugarplum herself. 🧚‍♀️🩰,” Garner captioned the post. Her celebrity friends and fans complimented the hairstyle in the comments section.

Peck wrote, “In this video we kind of look like sisters 👯‍♀️ from backyard dancing besties to sugarplum sisters 😂.” A fan added, “Your hair looks beautiful in that style Jennifer,” while another follower gushed, “Where has this hair advice been all our lives?!?! ♥️🤯♥️🤯♥️.”

Garner previously got into the holiday spirit by decorating gingerbread houses last week. She mixed icing together to create a bright red shade and spread it over the gingerbread. To achieve her desired barn aesthetic, Garner used a white icing to draw on windows and doors. She made her barn even cozier with berries and tree decorations.

Earlier this month, she hilariously dressed up as a candy cane with Ed Helms while promoting her 2023 movie Family Switch, in which they wore the same costumes.

Healms wore a striped vest, bright red pants and a candy cane-shaped headpiece.

“Let’s go, @edhelms! Happy Holidays, everyone!” she wrote alongside the post. “(Courtesy of Family Switch, bringing family Holiday cheer on @netflix).”
