iPad (2019): New Entry-Level, Mini Models Expected Next Spring

Apple’s iPad line could be upgraded in the next few months. It would introduce an upgraded entry-level iPad as well as a new iPad Mini. Details remain light at the moment, but the report indicates production begins this month.

Two new iPad models are due out in the first half of 2019, according to the China Times. In terms of specifications, both should be modest in an effort to remain budget-friendly. Yet there might be enough horsepower within these tablets that allow some of the most complex apps to run fairly smooth. As seen in the past, Apple’s interested in inserting premium chips in entry-level iPad models.

The entry-level iPad might offer a 10-inch display. With that, the 9.7-inch size would be retired and phased out over time. Apple doesn’t immediately stop selling previous generations as there’s still some money to be made on them.

Meanwhile, Apple’s new iPad Mini would arrive after more than three years of dormancy. The Cupertino-based company hasn’t touched the little-but-mighty iPad model since 2015. It’s still available, but the iPad Mini seems way to expensive today as its specifications are outdated.
