There’s no denying the fact that the Huawei Watch 2 hasn’t been as well-received as its predecessor, but the Chinese firm is hoping to drive some more sales with the release of a luxury Porsche Design variant in Europe.
Priced at €795 ($925), the Huawei Watch 2 Porsche Design isn’t exactly cheap, nor is it worth the additional €416 ($485) Huawei is charging for a new bezel, some red stitching and a handful of exclusive watch faces.
It’s clear that Huawei is releasing a more expensive model to cover the costs associated with manufacturing the regular variant, because let’s face it: units aren’t exactly flying off the shelves.
Recently, interest in Android Wear-powered smart watches has been on the decline, while searches for the Apple Watch have continued to increase — and that’s reflected in our own data as well.
Huawei’s best bet is to exit the failing market and focus its efforts on an emerging sector, like voice-activated smart speakers. If it decides to go down that road, however, it’ll need to develop a distinguishing feature to set itself aside from the competition.
