How to use your Amazon Echo speaker as a home intercom

Amazon on Thursday unveiled a new feature for its Alexa-powered Echo speakers called Alexa Announcements. The feature lets users broadcast an announcement to any available Echo speaker in the house.

Taking advantage of the feature is fairly easy, you just have to know the hot words to activate the feature

Activating the features can be done by stating, “Alexa, announce that…” or “Alexa, broadcast…” after which you can include your message. It’s important to note that Alexa Announcements will only be a one-way communicating system. You cannot carry on a two-way conversation, although there is a feature already available for Echo speakers that allows users to carry on conversations.

With the added functionality, Echo devices will gain a new layer of usability. Among the compatible devices that support the feature will be the Echo, Echo Plus, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Spot and Echo Look. The feature is rolling out to Echo users in the U.S. and Canada.
