Honda to recall another 772,000 cars with Takata passenger airbags
Honda announced this week that it will soon recall an additional 772,000 cars in the US that are equipped with faulty Takata passenger airbags. The recall affects Honda and Acura vehicles, so listen up if you own either one, even if you’ve already skirted, or even participated in, an earlier recall. In fact, this new recall brings the total number of affected Honda vehicles up to more than 11 million cars under both brands, Honda said. The latest recall also applies to the 2006-2009 and 2012 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle.
“With this new action, a total of approximately 11.4 million Honda and Acura automobiles have been or now are subject to recall for replacement of a Takata driver and/or passenger front airbag inflator in the United States, with approximately 3,580 Honda motorcycles subject to recall for the replacement of the Takata airbag inflator module,†Honda explained. The latest recall is phase 2 of the original announcement that was made back in May of last year. It does not affect new vehicles, Honda said, but rather specific Acura and Honda cars sold between 2005 and 2012. It does, however, also include some vehicles that already may have had the driver airbag replaced under the initial recall.
“Some vehicles previously repaired under earlier driver front inflator recalls will now require replacement of those vehicles’ passenger front inflators under this new action,†Honda explained.

Honda said it will start to notify owners of the recall in late February, after which the cars can be taken to a Honda dealer for a free replacement airbag.
