Guardians of the Galaxy Writer/Director says Mass Effect among biggest inspirations

Guardians of the Galaxy was a great movie. It’s based on a great stable of comics, and it comes from the mind of Writer/Director James Gunn.

Gunn was asked about what inspires him most by a fan on Twitter. Aside from the comics, Gunn counts Mass Effect among the most inspirational for his work on the franchise.

That, folks, is really awesome. Mass Effect offers some strong storytelling, for sure, but the sense of galactic sprawl and the characters on display are two of the biggest things going for the franchise.

If Gunn is taking inspiration for Guardians of the Galaxy from any marquee space video games, I’m glad it’s Mass Effect. Let’s just hope the end of Mass Effect 3 doesn’t seep into the inspiration for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Talk about opening a can of worms, am I right?
