Google’s Gboard greets popular and lesser-known languages

  • March 06, 2018

The popular keyboard available to all Android devices is receiving an update that brings in several additional languages.

Google announced that Gboard, formerly known as Google Keyboard, is expanding its audience for languages popular and not-so-common around the world. It’s another way Google is ensuring that, no matter where you are, you can communicate effectively.

The major additions to Gboard for Android are Chinese and Korean, the latter of which includes both traditional and simplified versions. Another 20 languages are also supported after the update. So the total number of languages on the Android version of Google’s keyboard now stands at over 300 to cover a large percentage of the world’s population.

Some of the lesser-known languages are Manx, Maori, and Fulani. With many of the additions, Google met with locals to ensure its implementation is accurate and easy to use.

An entire list of languages has been posted by Google, too. That’s where you’re able to see each and every language Gboard users can type with.
