Google Play announces its “Best of 2016” list

Good bye 2016, we won’t miss you. Well, there’s still some time left in the year, though its days are numbered. To celebrate the near-end of the crazy year that 2016 was, Google Play has released its Best of 2016 list highlighting the most popular music, movies and apps this year.

Deadpool, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Pokémon are just a few of the stars of the year that was, and each placed well in the charts.

This list is very indicative of the trends of 2016. The phenomenon that was Pokémon GO topped the Top Trending Games of 2016. The Pokémon revival took the world by storm over the summer and everyone was playing it.

Twenty-one Pilots’ big year was capped off with having the top streamed song in “Stressed Out.” Deadpool beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens for Top Movie while Game of Thrones topped The Walking Dead for Top TV Show in 2016.

Deadpool also topped the book charts with Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe by Cullen Bunn, beating out the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne.
