Google Daydream lands on another flagship Android handset

Google announced its Daydream platform back in 2016. It’s an upgrade over Cardboard that has the same vision of making virtual reality simple, affordable, and enjoyable no matter which Android smartphone you choose to buy. However, unlike Cardboard, not every Android device is compatible with Daydream right out of the box.

Now the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are, four months after making their debut. A “Daydream-ready” update started rolling out on Monday and should be available to install on your device soon. You’ll likely get it faster if you have an unlocked handset, while those with a carrier device will need to wait for approval.

If you don’t already have a Daydream View headset, you can pick one up for around $79. Other compatible devices include the Motorola Moto Z and Moto Z Force, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro, the ZTE Axon 7, the ASUS ZenFone AR, and of course, Google’s own Pixel devices. Google will be hoping that the addition of the Galaxy S8 can boost its catalog of Daydream apps and games.
