Godzilla: Monster Planet anime’s first trailer shows Earth 20,000 years later

When Godzilla first hit in 1954, a year like 2017 was probably unimaginable. Godzilla: Monster Planet takes this so far into the future that even Dune’s setting of the year 10,191 seems relatively close.

The animation style feels like a good fit, and the movie makes me think of stuff like the recent anime film Blame! with its hopelessly dark setting. And then there’s that classic Godzilla roar, one of the best sound effects in the history of movies.

Godzilla: Monster Planet is set to hit Japanese theaters this year, and will come to Netflix sometime after that.
