Get another look at the Galaxy S9 in this case

Compared to the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S9 doesn’t seem to be a big departure. Samsung believes its current design language works well enough where change isn’t necessary. The front of the phone boasts an edge-to-edge display with slim bezels above and below the display, and the number of cameras and sensors at the top seemingly doubled. Facial recognition could be getting a massive upgrade based on that.

The left and rights sides both have buttons just like last year’s flagship. Over on the left side is Samsung’s volume rocker and dedicated Bixby button. On the other side is the on/off button. There aren’t any ports on top, but the bottom features a USB-C port as well as a headphone jack. Next to those two items is a small speaker grille.

Around the back we see, at least on this model, a single camera positioned above the fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy S9+, however, is expected to ship with a dual-camera setup. Aside from that, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will also have dual-LED flash and laser autofocus aligned to the right of the camera module. Overall, this render does indicate the Galaxy S9 won’t usher in a new era for Samsung. The vibe we’re getting is that the company wants to improve upon what’s working before taking a risk again.

We’re waiting on invites from Samsung for a launch event, but they probably won’t be send out until late January or early February. Expect the Galaxy S9 to debut in late February at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. Samsung’s rumored to be bringing its next flagship to the global trade show.
