Galaxy Note 7 “Secure Folder” feature hits Galaxy S7, S7 Edge

“Secure Folder leverages the defense-grade Samsung Knox security platform to create a private, encrypted space on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Apps and data moved to Secure Folder are sandboxed separately on the device and gain an additional layer of security and privacy, thus further protecting them from malicious attacks,” Samsung explained in a post announcing the news. “Furthermore, users must use an authentication method such as PIN, pattern, passcode or biometric verification such as fingerprint authentication to access and manage Secure Folder.”

No iris scanner of course

I really enjoyed accessing Secure Folder with my iris, which just felt fun, but that’s obviously not possible without an iris scanner on the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge. The good news is I’m betting that Secure Folder is also available on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, and early indications suggest those devices will indeed feature an iris scanner.

If you have Nougat installed already — it’s just now rolling out to U.S. devices — you should find Secure Folder in the Galaxy Apps store now.
