FDA warns companies offered kratom products with opioid obsession heal claims

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued warning letters on Tuesday to dual secretly held companies for illegally offered unapproved, misbranded drugs containing kratom claiming to heal opioid obsession and withdrawal symptoms.
 
Leaves of a kratom tree, local to southeast Asia, can be used as a opiate or opiate and a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has listed it as a “drug and chemical of concern.”
 
The FDA warning letters were released to Cali Botanicals and Kratom NC. Both a companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
 
Advocates contend kratom helps palliate pain and revoke symptoms of opioid withdrawal, though a FDA has not authorized it for any medical use.
