Elon Musk has created the space suit of the future

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has taken to his Instagram profile to share an image of the space suit the firm is hoping to use for its first crewed missions—and as we’re sure you’d agree, it’s stunning.

First picture of SpaceX spacesuit. More in days to follow. Worth noting that this actually works (not a mockup). Already tested to double vacuum pressure. Was incredibly hard to balance esthetics and function. Easy to do either separately.

The suit in the image is functional and capable of withstanding double the pressure of the vacuum of space, said Musk, later adding that striking the balance between form and function was a challenge.

We think we’re right in saying that it looks a lot like something you’d see a Formula 1 driver wearing on race day, not an astronaut minutes away from being sent into space for a lengthy stint on the ISS.

I guess if you’re headed into space, you want to look fashionable doing it. Right?
