Celeb Hairstylist Chris Appleton Says His Priciest Service Ever Cost 6 Figures
Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton’s services sometimes come with a hefty price tag.
Appleton, 42, opened up about the costs of his work during a Friday, January 23, appearance on the “U Up?” podcast.
“Like 100K, but that was to travel and stuff,” he said of the most he’s ever charged for a service. “That was a whole situation.”
Chris admitted that he has “charged everything, from $100 back in the day” to six figures. However, he added that the more expensive services are typically “a one off” and not common.
“But don’t forget that then you get taxed 50 percent, then your agent takes something,” he continued. “It gets dwindled down.”
Appleton has a long list of high-profile clients, including Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera. He’s responsible for some of their major hair transformations, such as Kardashian’s icy blonde look in April 2024 and Jenner’s blonde bob in October 2025.
Over the years, Appleton has cultivated close relationships with his celeb clients, a handful of whom he recently name-dropped in his self-help book-slash-memoir, Your Roots Don’t Define You.
“Thank you to Drew Barrymore for your heartfelt encouragement and unwavering support,” he wrote in the book’s acknowledgements. “Your authenticity and kindness shine through in everything you do, and your belief in me has had a lasting impact I will never forget.”

Lopez, 56, also made an appearance in the acknowledgements, as Appleton thanked her for “being not only a friend but a guiding light throughout my career.”
“Your generosity, wisdom and belief in me have opened doors I never imagined. I’m endlessly grateful for the example you’ve set and the role you’ve played in my journey,” he added.
Jenner, 70, even wrote the foreword for the book, praising his “his heart, his journey and the way he uses his gift not just to style hair, but to lift spirits and transform lives.”
“Appleton hands you the tools, the stories, and the truth to help you rewrite your narrative,” she added.
Appleton wrote to Jenner in the acknowledgements, “It’s my honor to call you a friend, a mentor and an inspiration. Your brilliance as a businesswoman, your strength as a mother and your ageless grace continue to set the standard. You lead with power, purpose, and style — and remind us all that there’s no limit to what a woman can accomplish at any stage of life. Thank you for showing us what’s possible.”

In addition to sharing hair tips weaved into stories about his famous clients in his book, Appleton has recently gotten candid about his mental health struggles. He recalled experiencing suicidal ideation during the “darkest” part of his life while coming to terms with his sexuality during a January 14 appearance on “Viall Files.”
“I don’t remember a lot. I was in the hospital for a while,” he said. “I remember thinking to myself, ‘Well, I couldn’t hate myself anymore. I couldn’t try and run away from myself anymore. Couldn’t try and avoid who I was anymore.’ I was like, ‘What if I just surrender? What about if I just accept it?’ It was quiet. It wasn’t a loud moment, but I just kind of let go for the first time, I think, in my life.”
He continued, “I didn’t really know what was next. I didn’t really know the next steps, but that was the beginning of the journey of finding acceptance.”
