The ratings poured in, the rumors flared out, and now, we have confirmation that Castlevania Requiem will be released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive just before Halloween on Oct. 26.
This bundle will contain two of the best Castlevania games, or indeed, two of the best video games in general, of all time, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Both will have trophy support and will be emulated in upscaled 1080p/4K screen resolution for the very first time.
Rondo of Blood was first released in 1993 exclusively in Japan, where it existed as a sort of “holy grail†for the series’ enthusiasts. It finally reached North American shores in 2007 when it appeared in the PSP compilation Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles and again in 2010, when it appeared on the Wii Virtual Console. The game is held in high regard for its blend of linear and non-linear level design, its soundtrack, and those sweet mid-90s anime cutscenes.
Symphony of the Night was first released in 1997 and is an indisputable masterpiece. An entire sub-genre of indie action games is based on this title, making up half of the Metroidvania moniker.
